Extremely Shorts Film and Video Festival

Started in 1998, the Extremely Shorts Festival is a juried competition of adventurous three-minute or shorter films and videos from around the world. Each year a different juror (esteemed filmmaker, film programmer or arts curator) selects 20-25 mini-masterpieces to be shown at a two day screening event in June. Aurora is honored to have Brent Hoff of Wolphin DVD for this year's juror.
Audience Choice cash awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The short format of the festival encourages innovative approaches to moviemaking in a range of genres including narrative, art, experimental, documentary and animation.

In and Out of the Box

The ebb and flow of consumerism initiated the decline of shopping in person at big box/warehouse stores and the rise of the virtual/mail order shopping experience. As a result of this shift, there has naturally been a rise in the number of boxes being sent around the world from retailer to buyer. Additionally, the experience of packaging, sealing, opening, and unwrapping has exponentially grown. "In and Out of the Box" invites imaginative makers to explore this unfolding cultural phenomenon. This show will address the nature of "boxing": packing, sending, delivering, receiving, etc. All boxes and packaging material will be displayed in this exhibit, as we strive to make the process of the delivery a focus of the show.

Many times a residency experience is only the beginning of a longer relationship. Residents often return to complete a project they started, to begin a new collaboration, or participate in an exhibition, panel or workshop.
Artists will give at least one informal public slide/powerpoint/DVD/CD presentation (30 - 45 minutes) about their work during their stay at the HMC and leave one exhibition ready art work made during the residency as a donation to the HMC.  Exhibition arranged at Raday Konyveshaz Gallery, Budapest in August, 2011.
While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping to facilitate the creation of program, the cost of the exhibitions and cover %40 of total cost, artists cover %60.   We encourage the applicants to apply for a grant or scholarship.  The artist needs to calculate, travel, health insurance costs, for lunch and dinner for the duration of their stay at the residency.
